Today I turn 6 in BBDO

I consider it a feat.  In an industry known for people jumping from one agency to another within an average of two years, six years is quite remarkable I think.  Especially if it’s your first job.

I entered advertising last July 5, 2004 with no clue what the difference was between a marketing and communication objective.  I didn’t know FA stood for Final Art and not Flight Attendant. 😛  I didn’t know what a compre was.  I didn’t know what BBDO meant.  I didn’t even know an agency called BBDO existed back in college.

And six years ago, David Guerrero didn’t even know who I was.  He’d finally get to know I worked for him six months later. 😀

That all seems so long ago.

I spent the first two years of my career just doing and learning everything…in silence.  That’s why you can’t blame people for not knowing me because I was soooo quiet especially for an Accounts person.  Still, I like to look back on everything I was able to experience throughout the years.

Let me see…

The latest I’ve gone home for overtime was overnight.  I went home the next day.

I’ve handled numerous accounts, local, regional, even pro-bono.

I was seconded to Client-side for three months.  Drove me crazy but it’s not an opportunity that comes to every Accounts person. Well, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, right?

May 7 – August 7, 2007

I’ve gotten drunk at least once during an office party.  The most memorable one was the 2005 Christmas party because that was the first time I had gotten drunk in my life.  And I guess it all started then…

I’ve been a talent several times.  Most of the time you either see parts of me, or you don’t even know it’s me until I point out a blurred person in the background and say, “That’s me!”

I’m an Account Director now.  I know what FA means.  I guess you could say that I was a compre when I started out as Account Manager.  I don’t want to say I’m in the FA stages of my job already because there’s still so much to learn.  I know that.  That’s why I’m here. 🙂

And of course, I have worked with some of the best people, if not the best, in this industry.  I’m lucky.  So there.  Whether I go on 7 years or not next year, we don’t really know.  But what I can say is that it’s been an overall great experience because of all the people I’ve met and worked with and just everything I have learned along the way.

Overall rating for 6 years: Time Well Spent.

I’ve mentioned this before to some people.  I guess why I find it always better to stay is, when you’ve experienced a certain standard, how can you opt for anything less?

P.S. And to those who are curious, BBDO stands for Barton, Batten, Durstine and Osborne
