Sushi-Ya – Quick Japanese Meals

One thing we like about Japanese food in the Philippines is that a lot of the food are very easy to make, what with the no cooking at all. 😛  It does pre-suppose however, that you know how to slice and roll properly for sushi and maki.  Apart from these, Japanese cooking is also known for observing the seasonality of certain dishes and their ingredients, as well as how food is presented.

Despite the common notion that Japanese food is raw, a lot of it actually employs different cooking techniques, like the teppanyaki.  Teppanyaki is a style of cooking that involves an iron plate (teppan) and grilling, broiling or pan-frying (yaki).

The way Sushi-ya does it is with a generous serving of stir-fried veggies (mostly mongo sprouts) on the side. The beef is cut into cubes and cooked in a sauce.  It’s really tasty and can be enjoyed without rice, even by a Pinoy (yes, it’s okay to skip rice sometimes :P).  It’s like beef salpicao but with less garlic flavor.  Sushi-ya, established in 1996, offers quality Japanese meals at affordable prices.  Check out the rest of their menu below.

Sushi-ya can be found in the following locations:

  • Tomas Morato (+632 921 7643)

I’ve eaten at Sushi-Ya lots of times already.. 😀 Their sashimi and sushi are good, but nothing extraordinary. I tried a number of their Donburi, but I can’t remember how they tasted like.. >.< Dunno if they're quite forgettable talaga or if I'm just forgetful.. XD

Well, maybe nothing over-the-top but if you’ve eaten there several times, then it’s not awful either. 😀 It’s a no-fail place if you want good Japanese food that’s not so expensive. 🙂

You should try their Katsudon. Love it. It is moist and tender.

Also love their Obento choices, chicken teriyaki, specifically. It is a steal for P175.
