Dusit – Staycations, Free Wi-Fi, and a Reservations Officer

In the middle of planning for our honeymoon, we do have bouts of longing for vacations.  Our days can get pretty long so we need a break every once in a while.  With our leaves committed for that long-awaited trip, we only have overnights and weekends to spare.  That’s why we’ve been developing a penchant for staycations recently.

Dusit Thani Makati Hotel Philippines-16Our typical considerations for choosing a hotel include: free wi-fi (admit it, it’s probably yours too), good food (doesn’t have to be Michelin-rated, but would be cool if it was), a clean bathroom (no excuses here), proximity to our succeeding destination (better to save time getting to your next stop than saving time to check-in), all balanced with a suitable price tag.

My behavior in searching started off with a quick search thru a hotel travel booking site.  After keying in the location, I gloss over the first five or so on the list. Dusit was the top choice. A quick scan of the features showed free wi-fi (something a lot of 5-star hotels tend to scrimp on) and buffet breakfast for two. But, being the skeptic that I am, I went to the actual website of Dusit to compare their actual rates.  And because we needed instant confirmation, I tried my luck with their reservations office over the phone.

I ended up booking over the phone. In this day of modern convenience, there’s still no substitute for an actual person asking you for your preference. Sometimes, it’s something as simple as being asked, “Is there anything else I can help you with, ma’am?” I could have easily selected from a list of tickboxes but I was more assured by talking to an actual person and even being able to specify what time we will arrive. Maybe it’s because it’s the hospitality industry. Even a phone call gives you a glimpse of the kind of service you can look forward to. (A shoutout to Allan of Dusit’s reservation’s office for being a big help.)

We ended up paying the same rate, had a pleasant staycation, capped with a decent buffet breakfast at Basix.

And free wi-fi to boot.
