It was unfortunate that only after  trying Gram’s Diner’s Lunch Special meal did other foodie raves come out about the diner: that one of the very things that should never be missed here is their Famous Beef Tapa (Yeah. That’s how it is written on the menu. Capital “F”).

So like everything else, the only way to find out was to return again for lunch to sample it. And so with a heavy heart that carries the burden of sharing good food (Sarcasm right there), back to Gram’s Diner it is.

Right then and there, in between the twirled twisted ambient lighting and graffiti filled walls of people proclaiming their love for mothers and other things not appropriate to mention, one Gram’s Diner’s Famous Beef Tapa is ordered.

On a side note: Just ask for colored markers from the staff, and you can begin writing on the walls. It is pretty much filled, but you might find some space somewhere 😉

The staff of Gram’s Diner also recommended to pair it with their iced tea. The drink came out in a jar filled with frothy sweetness. It wasn’t the overpowering kind of sweet, though, so you may find yourself chugging it down to cool off from the blistering Philippine heat.

And it’s all ok to do so, since you can have unlimited refills of it 🙂 !

But we are not here to drown in iced tea, we are here for tapa:

First impression is that the Gram’s Famous Beef Tapa doesn’t look different from any others that are out there. However when you look closely, it is actually sliced very thinly and delicately fried, making it curl from the introduction of heat into its natural flesh and fat. Quite frankly, it can be said that this may be a beef version of bacon.

And the experience of eating it is almost the same!

The slight crunch giving way into the flavors of the seasoning and remaining beef fat is quite heavenly. And dabbing a bit of the sweet cane vinegar that comes with the meal gives another play into the flavors. It is hard not to eat this with the fried rice and egg that accompanies the beef tapa.

There is justification to the raves, and it is perplexing to figure out how come not a lot of restaurants that serve beef tapa serve it in this way. Could it be the seasoning? The choice of meat? Maybe it is everything about it that makes it Gram’s Famous Beef Tapa.

Give it a try for lunch or maybe after a heavy night of boozing out. This is Filipino comfort food courtesy of Gram’s Diner 😀 !
