Bono Artisanal Gelato Philippines-6908Bono Artisanal Gelato has been in the Philippine market for quite some time already, gaining its own cult following of those who are more particular about their frozen treat experience. The more renowned and knowledgeable taste buds of the metro have given their praise to the quality and freshness of Bono’s unique gelato experience.

It’s the same here in En Route. There is a great difference between a regular run of the mill ice cream and gelato, and from experiences with some of the gelateria tourist traps in Florence, Italy, even gelato can vary in quality.

So what makes people rave about Bono Artisanal Gelato? Or what is their claim to fame? Well, let this infographic pasted in their stall’s wall be your guide:

Bono Artisanal Gelato Philippines-6902This describes most gelatos in general, but there is a unique proposition that Bono Artisanal Gelato has, in particular, with how they make and care for their ice cream:

Bono Artisanal Gelato takes the utmost precaution in terms of temperature, humidity, freshness, and even light that hits the gelato they serve. So much that unlike the usual gelaterias where the ice cream flavors are spread throughout a looking glass in all its colorful glory, Bono’s gelato is hidden in bins so that air and light do not contaminate it.

Very peculiar. Its care for its gelatos is so similar to the storage of wine in wine cellars.

Bono also makes occasional unique gelato flavors to complement some mainstays in their menu. For sampling, some Choco-fudge and the tempting Coffee Honeycomb.

The flavor is superb, the consistency is alluring, and how the whole ensemble of textures, taste and refreshing uniqueness from the carefully selected combinations of ingredients make it stand out from all the other gelaterias that have popped out in the metro. Maybe that special Pozzetto Cabinet where they are kept does make a difference. The chocolate fudge has generous amounts of indulging chocolate chunks, and the candy-like cracking of the honeycomb is a great break from the taste of the coffee, that you can’t have just one scoop.

It’s no world champion gelato from San Gimignano (which, strangely, doesn’t use those cabinets anyway and still retains a silky smooth texture that was so unique, it was unforgettable. Maybe it’s the weather and humidity? ), but you will never go wrong with getting a scoop if you are a more distinguished gelato lover.

It is without a doubt that Bono is the best and most authentic gelato experience you can get this side of the metro. That velvety softness with richness of creamy delight accentuated by the most natural and freshest flavors possible makes for the best gelato in Manila.
