The geeks shall inherit the earth.
While we all fascinate and aspire to be part of the beautiful and glamorous, the reality is that it is those with high intellect (others call them nerds) that make the world go round. It seems fitting to even replace the word “girls” with “nerds” in the refrain of that popular Beyonce song.
However, most are stereotyped to be antisocial hermits too absorbed in the academics with no interest in human interaction. Surprise, surprise. They love to go out and have fun, too!
(We at En Route are proud to be geek 😛 )
And with this, the metro is now swamped with trivia nights that pit teams with brains. It actually provides a relief from the usual nights out with friends.
One of the more popular ones happening at the most odd day of the week is Quiz Night at 121 Grille in Pasong Tamo Extension (so Tuesday may feel like the most useless day, but Quiz Night makes sure it’s not THAT useless.)
En Route was fortunate enough to be invited by Team Ketlog’s, one of the teams who occasionally plays at Quiz Night. They admit to be a fan of the free shots 😛!
More on the free shots in a bit.
Quiz Night at 121 Grille is very simple: Answer as many questions correctly as given by the quiz master. Write your answer down and raise the whiteboard when asked to do so. Late raises disqualifies you for that particular question.
The team with the highest score by the end of the night wins a free pitcher of drinks and a pic on the wall. And for the losers? Free shots! It’s amusing that those who excel and those who totally suck are rewarded equally.
This actually opens up interesting team tactics for the night, with some teams actually known to lose intentionally for free shots.
The game has a few twists, like you can double up your points if you are sure of your answer or write the name of the team that you think knows the right answer so you can get points too. These perks are limited to every other round or so. It can’t be cheated as well. There’s a judge marking all the moves of each team.
As for the questions, it pretty much is any question out there: from modern news, to celebrities, to Bible verses. And in one instance, a more adult oriented category combining famous Hollywood news with some pornography terminologies. Let the few pictures give you an idea.
Note: The next pics are not for kids nor for easily offended people
Quiz Night is best experienced with the bar chows served at 121 Grille. These bar chows also come in solo (PHP 70.00 to 250.00) or group (barkada) sizes (PHP 270.00-900.00). Then pair it up with your choice of local beer and drinks. Check out their menu here.
Whether you are here for the true competition of pitting your brain cells against other intellectuals, or busting that brain cells out with the free shots you get for being the losing team, there is no doubt that Quiz Night at 121 Grille makes it one of the go-to trivia nights that are sprawled over the metro.
